Cannon House
Pompano Beach, Florida
1970
The clients were a recently retired couple who wanted a radical change of their living environment to match the geographic change from Michigan to Florida.
The site was close to the ocean and was heavy with existing trees, including a major Tropical Ash tree located close to the center of the property. The hexagonal floor plan evolved from the desire for graceful movement around the Ash tree and though out the house, as well as fulfilling the wish for a radical change. The plan angles and meanders around the trees and opens out to a covered Lanai and screened swimming pool. The Master Bedroom is on the upper level and opens to a roof deck.
Roofs are flat with low sloping gables over all bedrooms. Materials are Cypress horizontal siding, plaster ceilings and board formed natural concrete. Furniture is almost all built in.
In 1970 the Cannons wanted to downsize so we replicated the feeling of the interior and the furniture they loved in a new condominium apartment.
The last three photos are recent, including an added poolside guest house.
