Manson House
Jupiter Island, Florida
1961
The clients were a retired older couple. He was a surgeon and she had been the head of the Red Cross. They had retired to the Isle of Pines in Cuba, but were forced to flee with only their suitcase to escape Castro.
They searched in Florida for a similarly remote area to build another house. They found a suitable property on the undeveloped north end of Jupiter Island. The house was carved out of a dense Palmetto thicket and looked across the road to the ocean.
The small house, basically one bedroom, was just 1000 sq.ft., but was enhanced by another 10'x50' screened porch that cantilevered toward the ocean.
