Salvati Bachelor House
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
1967
The client was a 67 year old bachelor who had seen the Buck Bachelor House (1966) in a newspaper article and after months of pondering decided to build his own modern bachelor pad.
The waterfront site was badly eroded from wake from water ski activity, so rather than the typical seawall and backfill procedure, we chose to secure the existing bank with boulders and build up to and over the water.
The two bedroom, post and beam wood and exposed block house had a separated Office/Studio right at the waters edge where he went to work every day. He eventually married and a second floor Study was added over the Kitchen for his new wife. After Ray died she sold the house to another much younger bachelor for whom we did numerous additions and changes.
Now, 45 years later, a third bachelor, a boating enthusiast has personalized it again.
Only the first two photos and the floor plan represent the original design.
