Sheraton Showplace
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
1979
In 1978-79 the existing Sheraton Hotel on Ft. Lauderdale beach expanded by building another tower across a side street to the north and connecting the two buildings by a second floor bridge over the side street. The lobby, reception and arrival functions were consolidated in the new building.
Our project was to convert the lower two floors of the existing building to an entertainment complex that would have three major components.
"Saloon", a bar featuring a wide open view of the ocean, three inside bars, mild entertainment and dancing and an outside pool bar.
"Images", a nightclub…… a major entertainment room with metallic reflective surfaces on walls and ceilings. The metal, however, had perforations and open spaces that concealed sound soaking acoustical insulation, contrary to the look of the room.
"Reflections", A dinner theater with the soft look of predominantly acoustical surfaces.
