Tugboat Annie's
Harbortown, Dania, Florida
1984
In 1981, we had remodeled a building in a marina that previously was a coffee shop and an outboard motor repair shop. The new bar/restaurant, which also had considerable outdoor service space, became very popular with the boaters. We had decorated it with old nautical stuff and, for contrast, pretty pictures of girls, flowers and scenery. A dominant décor item was old tugboat rope, made into soft sculpture.
This project was to have been a serious replacement for the small, and somewhat limited one……….a large theme restaurant/bar with banquet facilities, butcher shop, bakery, fish market on piers over the water, large outdoor dining and entertainment spaces and a Bahamian "shanty town" of small gift shops………all structured entirely of poles with rusty tin roofs.
We were well into working drawings before it was abandoned.
