Yesterday's Upstairs Porch
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
1979
Wildflower was still under construction for this same client when he decided to make an addition to his very successful waterfront restaurant/lounge, Yesterday's. The project was a second floor addition over the dockside dinning room below. The "Upstairs Porch" was a garden-like space with a heavy timber, basically flat roof structure. It then had a large multi-gable aluminum and glass "greenhouse" structure opening the room to the sky and shaded with sail-like fabric panels. Wood frame windows which operated by rope and pulley, opened the room to the south east prevailing breezes and the Intracoastal Waterway view.
Upstairs Porch was intended to exemplify natural living with an abundance of plants, flowers and a fresh/green menu.
