McQuade Bachelor House
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
1970
This small bachelor house is a composition of shingled circular enclosing forms, enclosed primarily by a long sloping shingled roof. This roof starts low over the Living Room and slopes up to include a Study over the stepped down Dining Room, accessed by a circular stair.
The site was a corner lot on a dead end canal with a large stand of Australian Pines at the waters edge. Landscaped berms against the two street fronts organically integrate the structure to the site.
McQuade moved to the woods in 1977 and this became a second Prince House.
