September #1
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
1979
This project followed Montego Bay and Uptown, each opened a year apart, in April……again, my multi-faceted star client. It was to be primarily concrete, sandblasted and exposed. Stainless steel and red granite were the other major materials. It had many different levels, mainly to place everyone in view of the band and activity. But it also was structurally complicated, expensive and slow.
Therefore, it was abandoned in favor of an easier and faster kind of construction. September #2 was made out of reclaimed old timber, and was designed, permitted and built in four months.
This client was also a very resourceful contractor and an important aspect of each project was cost and timing.
