Midway thru working drawings on September #1 (unbuilt) our client found a source of reclaimed large timber beams and decking from an old mill in Georgia that was very cheap. He saw a recession coming and wanted to economize and speed up the project.
From a list of available sizes and lengths we designed the structural system first, using reclaimed utility poles as columns. Beams and columns were being prefabricated on the site while we finished the drawings and permitting. The entire project, including drawings, took four months….a tribute to our client's resourcefulness.
Exterior walls were used brick, inside and out with reinforced concrete within. The seven different roof levels had green copper fascias inside and out. A swimming pool and two of the six bars were integrated into the front of the meandering structure. Café September, a small gourmet dining room was added a year after opening.
