TREASURE ISLAND

Great Guana Cay, Abaco, Bahamas

1988

The client owned Treasure Cay, a fishing resort on Abaco, an island the Bahamas. The site was the north end of Great Guana Cay, a barrier island eight miles across shallow water from Treasure Cay.
The project was a cruise ship destination for Premier Cruise Ship Lines, Disney's easily recognizable red ships, to give their passengers an "out island" experience. A two mile long channel and turning basin was dredged for the big ships to get from the ocean into the shallow protected bay.
We had about 1000 feet of beautiful beach to work with and, of course, a "pirate" theme. Passengers were brought to the dock by tenders from the ship, and directed straight away to the Rum bar and then into the "Stockade" for a raucous pirate show.
Other features included………Several "Rum" bars with thatch roofs………Gift shop and giant flag pole with pirate flag…….Main picnic pavilion with adjacent bar and cafeteria…….wood slat walkways on the sand between all destinations…….plenty of rope, hammocks, picnic tables, old boats and other nautical stuff…….About 300 Coconut trees were planted……..1000 reclaimed utility poles used…….A fun project!!!
